  • 9/28/17: The Williamsburg Civic Association (WCA) Neighborhood Conservation Plan (NCP) calls for a re-engineering of the median on N. Sycamore Street:
The Williamsburg Civic Association was successful in promoting a plan — funded with Neighborhood Conservation funds — to re-engineer the Sycamore Street median. When completed … , this project will reduce the number of traffic lanes on Sycamore from four to two, add dedicated bicycle lanes, include pedestrian islands to facilitate walkability, and greatly enhance storm water management. (WCA NCP, 2/1/17, p. 10).
  • 9/28/17: We have recently received notice from the county that this project will begin in October.
There will be a neighborhood pre-construction meeting for the residents of N. Sycamore Street (from 26th St., N to Williamsburg Blvd.) on Tue., Oct. 3 at 8:30 AM at the intersection of N. Sycamore St. and 28th St, N. (on the S.E. corner).
Please see the flyer from Arlington County. A paper copy of the flyer was distributed by WCA volunteers to all affected neighbors along N. Sycamore St.
Thanks to all the WCA neighbors and volunteers for their work on the WCA NCP!
  • The Williamsburg neighborhood was one of three neighborhoods in Arlington selected to participate in a spring 2012 safety campaign called Neighborhood Drive 25.  This campaign lasted one month and used the tools of education and enforcement to reduce travel speeds on targeted neighborhood streets without the use of physical traffic calming measures.  In the Williamsburg neighborhood, North Ohio Street and 28th Street North had been identified for the spring campaign.  For more details, please see this letter, dated April 16, 2012, from Mary Hynes, Chair of the Arlington County Board.

  • Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Survey:  In February, the Williamsburg Civic Association set up a Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Committee to identify, discuss, and resolve traffic and pedestrian safety problems in our neighborhood.  As a first step, we are deploying a short survey to get input from neighbors.  Many of the questions on the survey were on our Neighborhood Conservation Plan survey in the late 1990's; and we have historical data on how residents perceived the issues back then. But things have changed, and we need a better sense of neighborhood views and concerns.

The survey is available in Microsoft Word format here.  Please complete the survey & return it by 18 April 2011, in one of two ways:

    • Complete the survey electronically and email the Word file of the survey with your answers and comments to el@smithtyler.com.  (preferred)

    • Or: fill in a printed version of the survey and mail it to:
      Eleanor Smith
      6523 North 27 St, Arlington , VA 22213
